A fine request will refer the matter to a prosecutor
Fine requests can be issued for a variety of reasons. A fine request does not oblige you to pay the fine yet. The matter must first be decided by the prosecutor.
A fine request can be issued in the following situations, for example:
- The police officer, customs official, border guard or game and fisheries warden does not have the power to impose a fine for the offence with a fine order.
- A punishment of more than 20 unit fines is demanded for the suspect for a single act.
- The suspect and authority disagree on the income affecting the amount of the unit fine. If this is the case, the suspect must submit a written report of the factors affecting the monetary amount of the unit fine to the prosecutor within two weeks.
A fine request will refer the matter to a prosecutor. The prosecutor will then issue a penal order on the matter.
Paying a fine request
A fine request does not oblige you to pay anything yet. You can pay the fine request and other penalties in advance if you wish, however. Use the payment details enclosed with the fine request.
If the prosecutor waives the penalties referred to in the request in part or in full, the LRC will refund any excess payments to the payer with possible interest.
