Legal Register Centre

The Legal Register Centre (LRC) is introducing eIDAS authentication, which will allow citizens of all EU countries to apply for an extract from the criminal records online. Until now, strong authentication has been possible with a mobile certificate, online banking credentials or a certificate card.

eIDAS authentication was introduced in spring 2025 for extracts from the criminal records that individuals can order from LRC. These include

  • an extract for working with children
  • an extract for a student working with children
  • an extract for working with the elderly or disabled
  • an extract for foreign authorities
  • an extract for SERMI certification

eIDAS is a European digital identity wallet that EU citizens can use if they wish. For example, it allows citizens to identify themselves electronically to public services in any EU country, and giving them greater control over their own data.
