Internship experiences at LRC
“My internship is my first encounter with working in the public sector, and LRC has been a fantastic place for it,” says Anni Virta, a university intern in information management services. Anni studies administrative sciences at the University of Vaasa, majoring in public law, and has been working on her bachelor’s thesis alongside the internship.
Anni has worked in the information management services unit, specifically in the information disclosure team. Her workdays have mostly involved processing and resolving information requests based on the general right of access to information.
She shares that her studies in administrative sciences—especially her knowledge of administrative, publicity, information management, and data protection laws—have been very helpful in her tasks.
Anni mainly works remotely, which has allowed her to progress in her studies. “However, the open-plan office is always available, and the days spent in Hämeenlinna have been a nice change from remote work,” she describes.
“I’ve had the opportunity to learn about the work of information management experts and more broadly about LRC’s role in government administration,” Anni summarizes her insights. She says the internship has taught her a lot about meeting practices and procedures in the public sector.
“The best part of working at LRC has been the flexibility of the work and the encouraging work atmosphere—even for someone new to public administration,” Anni reflects.

“It’s great to do work where my own contribution is so clearly visible,” says Rosa Savela, a communications intern. She has spent six months as an intern in the communications team, which is part of stakeholder services.
Rosa’s tasks have included a lot of visual communication and writing. She has also been involved in a major intranet renewal project. “For example, I’ve had the chance to design the visual look of intranet pages and proofread content for publication,” she explains.
During her internship, Rosa has also been involved in planning communication campaigns. “I got to design social media posts about interns’ experiences and the launch campaign for the new intranet,” she summarizes.

Miikka Vainio completed his university internship at LRC during the summer of 2023. He worked as an intern in LRC’s system services. Miikka is a fourth-year information technology student at HAMK.
“During my internship, I’ve learned a lot about different tasks related to application support and maintenance, which are highly relevant to my studies.”
His workdays included tasks related to maintaining the electronic legal aid service and the ROMEO application. Miikka describes situations where system errors were successfully resolved as particularly educational.
He found LRC’s flexible hybrid work model to be effective even for interns.
“This is my first workplace where remote work is possible. It’s been interesting to gain experience and learn about hybrid working, which is an important skill in today’s working life.”
In addition to hybrid work, Miikka has appreciated the relaxed work atmosphere and flexible working hours at LRC.
