A backlog in processing applications for extracts from the criminal records

There is a backlog in the processing of applications for extracts from the criminal records at the Legal Register Centre. The situation started at the end of 2022 and has continued in the beginning of 2023

We strive to process applications without delay but are currently unable to deliver extracts from the criminal records within normal processing times.

The normal processing time for extracts from the criminal records is seven business days. Postage times are not included in the processing time.

Please make sure to enter all required information when ordering extracts through the electronic service.

The price of extracts from the criminal records ordered through the electronic service will be reduced at the beginning of 2023

The price of extracts from the criminal records ordered through the Legal Register Centre's electronic service will be 6 euros from the beginning of 2023. The current price of an extract from the criminal records is 12 euros.

The new, lower price only applies to extracts from the criminal records ordered through the electronic service from the beginning of 2023, so we recommend waiting until the start of the new year to order the extracts if the matter is not urgent.

The price change does not apply to extracts from the criminal records ordered by email or post, which will still cost 12 euros. Neither does the price change apply to extracts applied for by the authorities.

The price change is based on the Decree of the Ministry of Justice on the Fees Charged by Authorities in Certain Administrative Branches in 2023–2024 (988/2022).

Letters have been sent twice due to an error

Due to an error, the Legal Register Centre has sent letters to customers twice by post in matters concerning fines and other legal consequences.

If you have received two letters with the same content from the Legal Register Centre, you can dispose of the extra copy, and you do not need to contact the Legal Register Centre about the issue.

The error affects demands for payment, balance certificates, decisions on payment time and account transfers related to decisions on payment time posted from 20 to 21 December 2022.

The problem was caused by an error in the mailing service of the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. We apologise for the error that has occurred.
